How Does Hypnotherapy Work?

Hi, I’m Mike and I often get asked ‘what do you actually do?’ Many people automatically think of stage hypnosis and ‘magic’ tricks when they hear about hypnotherapy, but rest assured, you won’t be clucking like a chicken when you come to visit my clinic!

Hypnosis is a very natural state between wide awake and fast asleep.  If you think of consciousness as a staircase with wide awake at the top and fast asleep at the bottom, the hypnotic state is halfway up. 

We all naturally go through hypnosis twice a day when falling asleep and when waking up.  It may occur at other times too when you ‘zone out’ during the day.  For instance, have you ever driven somewhere but can’t remember the journey?

Hypnotherapy works very well where you are open and willing to change.  If you want to make a difference in your life, this will be a great therapy for you.

Your Hypnotherapy Journey

Initial Consultation

New clients can submit a question through this website or call me. We will have a chat to establish the nature of the issue you would like to work on and discuss your desired outcome.  If we are happy to continue to work together we will then confirm our first appointment, at which I will have your tailored treatment plan ready.  If not, I may be able to refer you to other forms of treatment.  

First Session

I will ask you to complete a confidential client questionnaire which will help me to understand your goals and objectives, challenges, feelings and beliefs.  I will then explain what will happen during the session.  After guiding you into a hypnotic state I will use various techniques to understand the causes of your issue.  

You will receive an MP3 recording to listen to daily to reinforce the therapy. 

Subsequent Sessions

A typical course of hypnotherapy is 3-4 sessions depending on the issue you face and the progress you feel you are making.  Typically sessions are weekly and last up to 90 minutes. 

Extra Resources

All clients will receive:

  • Personalised sessions, tailored to your issues, goals and progress
  • A recording to listen to daily; this can improve progress rapidly between our sessions
  • Email support; if you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact me
  • I may suggest extra reading or videos depending on your individual needs.
